English Literacy Essay Example for Free
English Literacy Essay The class I will be taking for my three lessons contains 25 grade 9 students. Of these students there is 15 girls and 10 boys. 12 of these students are currently working at the average literacy level for grade 9 students. There are 8 students working at an above average level, and 5 students at a below average level. Of these 5 students, 2 boys have behavioural issues, and struggle to stay attentive for long periods. Twice a week there is a Teacherââ¬â¢s Aid available to work with small groups for up to 2 hours. This 2 hour period is often used to help break up lessons for the 2 boys with behavioural problems, or occasionally separate them if the need arises. Throughout these literacy lessons the Teacherââ¬â¢s Aid will be available to help the 5 students who are currently below average literacy levels, as well as prompt deeper discussion around the chosen text, with other students in the class. The chosen text for this literacy unit is the song ââ¬ËImagineââ¬â¢, originally written and performed by John Lennon. Over a period of 3 lessons this text will be explored and examined through the three receptive modes of listening, reading and viewing. The text ââ¬ËImagineââ¬â¢ provides a range of relevant literacy demands for grade 9 students. It is an excellent example of literature that is well structured by an author, for a specific purpose and effect. As stated by the Australian Curriculum and Assessment Reporting Authority (ACARA) (2011), ââ¬Å"By the end of year nine students analyse the ways that text structures can be manipulated for effectâ⬠. Some of the literacy demands that can be explored by students in this text include language for interaction, text structure, expressing and developing ideas. These opportunities are provided by the written content and theme of John Lennonââ¬â¢s song. He uses certain devices, such as metaphor and sentence structure, to suggest the world could be a better place without religion, ownership, war and possibly cultural differences. By analysing the written text, students will have the opportunity to analyse and reflect on how the author has put these messages across. It is also a goal for year 9 students to be able to discuss the content and appeal of an authorââ¬â¢s literary style (ACARA, 2011). Other literacy demands that are prominent for this text are examining and responding to literature, as well as interacting with others. Lines in the text, such as ââ¬Å"No people below us, above us only skyâ⬠, offers students the opportunity to evaluate and discuss their own ideas on the meaning, and intent of the author. Some students may find the comprehension of these tasks easier than others. This can be due to some students having less prior knowledge in specific areas, and therefore may be working at a lower level of literacy (Emmitt, Komesaroff Pollock, 2006). In this case I as a teacher, as well as the Teacherââ¬â¢s Aid, will be there to support and facilitate learning. Visual and auditory features of this text are also significant to the literacy content. The film clip for the song contains Mr Lennon playing a piano and singing in a large empty house, with a woman sitting with him. This provides students with an opportunity to analyse the message of the video clip by itself, and in relation to the written lyrics. The ability for students to make connections between the lyrics and clip will be encouraged. Contradictions, such as John playing a beautiful piano inside of a mansion whilst singing about no possessions, will also be looked for in students understanding of the text. The melody of the song is uplifting and enjoyable, and provides another aspect of literacy that students can identify with the authors use of text to cause effect. With the aim of providing an effective literacy environment, as well as rich opportunities for literacy to take place, a variety of learning practicing will be implemented. This text allows learning practices such as discussion, group work and presentation. It will be important for me as a teacher to use differentiation whilst providing questions for students, to evoke interest and learning . As suggested by Camborneââ¬â¢s 7 conditions of learning, engagement in crucial in producing an optimal learning environment. Open class discussions involving all students can be used to generate this engagement as well as immerse students into the text (Campbell Green, 2006). Group work will provide another environment where certain students may be more comfortable participating and allow diversity in all studentââ¬â¢s learning. The variation provided by the text allows the use of video clips and audio tapes as a form of diversity, which is important in stimulating and motivating students (Campbell Green, 2006). Another key to maintaining motivation in students is encouragement and feedback. This is an important practice throughout any unit and links to Camborneââ¬â¢s learning condition of response. This condition advises feedback from not only teachers but also peers, in both formal and informal settings. It is important that feedback is offered in a constructive and in a positive environment (Westwood, 1999). The strategy I will implement throughout my three lessons with be based around a combination of verbal and written tasks. This will provide students with numerous opportunities to discuss and engage with the text. It will also allow me as a teacher to guide students towards specific learning outcomes related to my context of health. Using the selected strategy, students will be guided towards ââ¬Ëexploring and reflecting on personal understanding of the world and significant human experience gained from interpreting various representations of life matters from textsââ¬â¢. This is drawn from the grade 9 literacy strand within ACARA 2011. This learning outcome strongly relates to health and wellbeing in society, and provides students with the opportunity to discuss their own thoughts and feelings on such topics. As the lessons progress students will be able to analyse the world, and human health related issues of the text. The selected strategy will permit activities such as linking the general theme of the song to other famous text. The uplifting message of the text ââ¬ËImagineââ¬â¢ suggests that if people work together, the world can become a better place. Other texts such as ââ¬ËI have a dreamââ¬â¢ by Martin Luther King Junior, have strong links to this message and can be used to strengthen students understanding of the chosen learning outcome. Demonstrating how to make links between different texts by me as the teacher will be important in providing students the opportunity to observe learning occurring (Wing Jan, 2009). Another important aspect of my lessons will be making sure I cater for all students when setting tasks. Support from the Teacherââ¬â¢s Aid, and myself, as well as a variation in difficulty levels required in tasks, will help students achieve the chosen learning outcome. When teaching literacy to grade 9 students in this context it will be important to structure lessons and strategies used to guide students in a clear and precise manner*. I have found Camborneââ¬â¢s 7 conditions of learning an effective theory to use when planning for the literacy demands of a text, as well as literacy practices to be implemented into the classroom. It is also important to use scaffolding through a unit of work, especially when the intended learning outcome is at a level students have not previously achieved (Winch, Johnston, March, Ljungdahl Holliday, 2006). Bloomââ¬â¢s Taxonomy is a good example of how to scaffold correctly and create rich learning opportunities. Bloomââ¬â¢s Taxonomy also links to Camborneââ¬â¢s conditions. The condition of ââ¬ËUseââ¬â¢ for example, where students use their knowledge through their everyday lives, links with the later stages of Bloomââ¬â¢s Taxonomy. Scaffolding should be guided by the strategies chosen by the teacher to engage students in each lesson of the unit (Campbell Green, 2006).

Analysing The Market Of Milk Economics Essay
Analysing The Market Of Milk Economics Essay 1. a.) Highlights of scientific studies in an advertising campaign that find drinking milk can help reduce weight gain. The campaign will positively affect both the price and the quantity demanded, as a result more consumers will demand for large quantities of milk. High demand will cause a shortage of milk supply, therefore the quantity supplied will be insufficient, and this will result in the increase of the market prices for milk (Doherty, 2007). b.) presence of a mad cow disease epidemic. In this case, the consumers will refrain from milk consumption causing a decrease in the quantity demanded. This will result to surplus milk being produced and consequently lead to a fall in the price of milk. c.) A decrease in the price of milk. A decrease in the price of milk implies that the consumers will have high purchasing power; they will probably buy more of the milk. As it is explained in (Mankiw, 1998). Due to the low prices of milk the producers will be discouraged due to the accompanied expenses of production; as a result there will be a decrease in the quantity supplied. d.) The government decides to implement a price ceiling on milk. Government interventions always have a very significant effect on supply of any commodity. If the Government sets the price of a commodity to a value which is below the market-clearing level, then the quantity that the producers are willing to supply will be less as compared to the quantity that consumers will be willing to purchase. Consequently, the extent of the excess demand that is implied by this kind of response will directly depend on relative elasticitys that exist with respect to the demand and supply. In case both the supply and the demand variables are elastic, then the price ceiling will create a shortage that is larger than when both are inelastic. Other factors such as the willingness of the consumers to more milk and the farmers ability to change the sizes of their herds and to produce less will also determine these elasticitys and influence the governments regulation pattern and hence magnitude of excess demand (Arnold, 2007). As Rosen, (2005). Explains, the governments price will result in the situations of excess demand where some producers will be unable to incur the expenses that are associated the production. In case the government price ceiling impacts negatively to consumers of milk, then those whose demands cannot be met will possibly attempt to purchase the substitutes, therefore increasing the demand for the milk substitutes, a phenomena leads to the rise in the prices of the substitutes. 2. The advantages and disadvantages to price controls Advantages The incentive to minimizing of the cost re-emerges due to the regulatory link that is created between the costs and the ceiling prices. The connection between the profits and rate base is broken. The Price ceilings on the monopoly products can help in the prevention of the predatory pricing on the competitive services. This is necessary when the regulated and the competitive products are placed in different baskets for the purposes of formulation. Disadvantages The farmer is usually the residual claimant of the surplus below the cap; therefore it has the incentive of minimizing costs. This has an implication that it also has the incentive of lowering the service quality, for any decrease in the quality it is equivalent to an increase in the price. The incentive that is associated with the predatory pricing persists in case both the competitive and the regulated services are subjected to a similar X-factor and specifically if the firm exhibits the joint costs. The Implementation of the price caps especially in the context of the informational asymmetries is complicated. Price-cap regulation has no obligation to the publication rates of return, and therefore they have greater discretion, which also entails a greater potential in capturing of the regulatory process of the government. In case when there is lack specific obligation to serving all customers of the monopolized products, then the regulation process may lack the incentive to serve the categories of the customers with the highest costs or those who are less willing to pay. (Colander, 2008). 3. Milk in this case has elastic type of elasticity. This is due to the responsiveness of the consumers to the changes in the prices of milk, which has direct impact on the supply and demand of milk. According to (Harris, 1958) elasticity of supply measures the magnitude of the responsiveness of the quantity that is supplied in relation to the changes in price, since the percentage change in the quantity supplied is induced by a small change in the price. Since the supply is usually increasing with the prices, then the price elasticity of the supply is usually positive. Other elasticitys are calculated for the non-price determinants of supply. For instance, a percentage change in the amount of goods supplied that is caused by a one percent increment in the price of related goods is an input elasticity of supply if the related goods are the inputs in the production process. The significant determinants of elasticity include: The availability of substitutes; Substitutes play the role of replacement thereby reducing the demand for the main product there by making the consumer to be non-responsive to the change of the prices. The percentage of ones budget that is spend on the product; The higher the percentage of the budget that is spend on the product, the more responsive the consumer is and vice versa. Reaction time: The price elasticity supply coefficient is largely determined by how quickly producers can react to the price changes by increasing or decreasing the rate of production and the supply of goods to the market. The Complexity of Production process: Elasticity depends mainly on the complexity that is associated with the production process. Milk production process is relatively simple. This is because the labor is largely unskilled and the production facilities are very cheap. There are no special structures that are needed. Therefore, the price elasticity supply for milk is elastic. Contrary to this, the price elasticity supply for other production process facilities such as the types of milking machine is relatively inelastic. Machine milking of the cows is a simple process which requires very specialized equipments, some partly skilled laborers, and very large suppliers network to reduce storage costs (Carley, 1968) Consumers response time: The more the time that a consumer takes to respond to the price changes the more elastic the supply is. For example, a milk consumer cannot immediately respond to the increase in the prices of dairy cow feeds as compared to the price of milk. Excess capacity: A milk producer who has excess capacity in the production units can quickly respond to the changes in the price of his market with the assumptions that the variable factors are readily available which is advantageous. The Inventories: A milk producer with a constant supply of milk or who has the available storage capacity can quickly respond to the price changes. 4. The total revenue decreases with the increase in the price of milk; this is attributed to the elasticity of the dairy industrys products. The consumers of dairy products, specifically milk in this case are very responsive to the changes in milk prices. Increase in the price of milk means that there will be a shift on the demand curve to the right; this is because the consumers will tend to reduce the rate of milk consumption to curb on the costs. This will cause a decrease on the total revenues due to the low demand for milk. (Tucker, 2008)

Ode On Grecian Urn and Sailing To Byzantium :: Sailing To Byzantium Essays
Ode On Grecian Urn and Sailing To Byzantium When you go to bed you see that it is dark outside, but when you wake you see light. The light and dark of the day is very dissent, but they are very closely related. Dark and light are the fares things from each other, while you can't have light without dark meeting. In the "Ode on a Grecian Urn" and "Sailing to Byzantium" we see these differences. The difference in the "Ode on Grecian Urn" and " Sailing to Byzantium" are very distinctive especially in the themes of art verses nature in the battle between immortality. "Sailing to Byzantium" has themes such as art verses nature while "Ode on a Grecian Urn" relies mainly on the battle of immortality in life. This can also be said about "Sailing to Byzantium." We will start with "Sailing to Byzantium to show the strive for immortality. This theme of immortality as I go thoughtout this poem: "That is no country for old men. The young in one other arms, bids in the tree. Those dying generations of their song." (1,2,3) Imortality hit you in the face start off these lines. It talks about old becoming young and birds and trees. This makes you think of spring and vegetation and animals and life. Yates uses vivified examples such as "An Aged Man is but a patty thing, a tattered coat upon a stick." (9,10) Yates is describing a scarecrow or what you might call death. He also talks about a maniacal bird in lines thirty and thirty-one. This is something that isn't dying and will go on forever. These two images life and death help insure the complexity of these poems. The images of life and death is also repesented in Keats "Ode on a Grecian Urn." "What leap-fringd Latin haults about they shap of deities or mortials or both." (5,6) As you can see through reading these lines life and death are big aspects in this poem. One the other side this poem is very different from Sailing to Byzantium." In "Ode on a Grecian Urn" there is just one aspect that is really representatives here. This aspect of death is talked about so vivialy in this poem. Keats talks about death all through this poem. "Through winning Near the Goal-yet do not greive, she can not save, through threw has not the bliss."(18,19) When you die you fade away. This tone is all through this poem. Death is a huge aspect and a way of life. The vivid way that keats talks about

Essay on Sophocles Antigone :: Antigone essays
Heroes come in many forms. Some immense in size and strength as Hercules, some in the form of people that are shunned, such as Harriet Tubman, and some that are only valorous heroes to some, such as Kurt Cobain. These heroes have many characteristics that make people flock to their side and follow them without a moment of hesitation. In Sophocles' Antigone the hero is a women who believes in her heart far stronger than that of her leader's rule. Sophecles shows many of Antigoneââ¬â¢s characteristics that are also seen in many heroes. She is up against an impossible enemy, she does not fit well into society's mold, and is destroyed by her own pride. For these characteristics Antigone is given the title of an epic Heroine. Antigone is one of the lucky townsfolk to be born of a royal house. As Antigone defies Creon's law, she is cast into a pool of danger between what she believes is right and what the state's law decrees is right. As Antigone is charged with the burying of her brother, an action, which the King has declared unlawful, she holds like stone to her undying gratitude for her deceased brother. She believes that this will help lift the curse plagued on the household. The curse in which Antigoneââ¬â¢s father tried to hold at bay and failed. Her sister Ismene warned Antigone by exclaiming, "Sister please, please! Remember how our father dies: hated, in disgrace, wrapped in horror of himself, his own hand stabbing out his sight. And how his mother-wife in one, twisted off her earthly days with a cord. And thirdly how our two brothers in a single day each achieved for each a suicidal Nemesis.â⬠This has already given Antigone the mindset that even the Gods are against her will. She is also up against a great foe in fighting that of Creon's edict. Ismene said this: "The rest, if we defy our sovereign's edict and his power. Remind ourselves that we are women, and such not made to fight with men. For might unfortunately is right and makes us bow to things like this and worse.â⬠Antigone sees herself as not only one who can defy the power of the Gods but the power of the state. Thus she would be up against a force greater than her own. Second, another characteristics of a tragic hero is that the person does not always fit into society's mold.
The True Story of Christopher Columbus Essay -- History, Discovery
He discovered the Americas. He started the first colony in the new world. He thought he was in Asia. Who is this brave explorer? Christopher Columbus. Smart and Wise Christopher Columbus was during his voyages. Christopher Columbusââ¬â¢s birth date is unknown but believed to be between August 25 and October 31, 1451 in Genoa, Italy (Columbus, ââ¬Å"Early Years of Boyhoodâ⬠par 1-3). His parents were Domenico Columbo and Susanna Fontanarossa (ââ¬Å"Christopher Columbus Biography and Life Storyâ⬠par 1). Christopher Was the oldest of five (Columbus, ââ¬Å"Early Years of Boyhoodâ⬠par 1-3). His brothers were Bartolomew, Giovanni, Pelligrino, and Giacomo (ââ¬Å"Christopher Columbus Biography and Life Storyâ⬠par 1). His fauther was a wool weaver who had Christopher help him. Later Christopher got a job of sailing on trade ships to Asia (ââ¬Å"Christopher Columbusâ⬠par 1-4). Christopher as a boy always wanted to sail. He decided to find a shorter way to travel to Asia. Doing this he would become wealthy, spread the word of Christ, and to become famous (ââ¬Å"Christopher Columbusâ⬠par 1-4). He sent Bartolomew to try to get support from England and Spain to allow the voyage but, they were denied. Then when Spain defeated Granada in 1492, Luis de Sontangel who was a royal treasurer convinced Queen Isabella that she was missing a great opportunity. Finally in April of 1492 Christopher Columbus received royal approval for the voyage (Columbus, ââ¬Å"Success in Spainâ⬠par 1). Then on May 20, 1506 Christopher Columbus died (ââ¬Å"The Journal of the Admiral of the Ocean Seaâ⬠, November 7, 1504 par 2). Besides all of the waiting for royal permission Christopher made some great discoveries. On Christopherââ¬â¢s first voyage he was sailing for King Ferdinand II and Queen Isab... ... He had really no impact on the world then because nobody knew he had discovered a new continent (ââ¬Å"Christopher Columbus Biographyâ⬠par 4). People have tried to search for the shipwrecks of Capitana and San Juan but have had no luck (Columbusââ¬â¢s lost ships, ââ¬Å"The Capitana and San Juan 1503-1504â⬠). Christopher did make a sacrifice of leaving 40 men behind to start a colony, but all those ended up being killed by Indians (ââ¬Å"Christopher Columbus Second Voyageâ⬠) par 3). The discovery led to an age of exploration and conquering. It always showed that the world was a lot bigger than everyone thought (Levinson 99-100). After a decade passed after the death of Christopher Columbus the whole coast from Honduras to Prenambuco had been mapped (ââ¬Å"Christopher Columbus and The Spanish Empireâ⬠par 15). So Columbus really made a important discovery but never lived to know it.

Romeo And Juliet Friendship Essay Essay
A friendship includes trust, honesty, commitment, caring, dependable, loyality, witty, love and communication. I will analyse the friendship between Romeo and Mercutio, and between Romeo and Benvolios. I will compare Rome and Benvolioââ¬â¢s friendship to Romeo and Mercutioââ¬â¢s friendship and decide which is better. Romeo and Mercutioââ¬â¢s friendship is filled with humour and is frivolous with care, but care isnââ¬â¢t shown emotional. Romeo and Benvolioââ¬â¢s friendship is filled more with emotion and care is shown more emotional than through humour. Shakespeare presents Romeo and Mercutioââ¬â¢s friendship as frivolous and light-hearted but caring. Shakespeare shows this through the dialogue when Mercutio says, ââ¬Å"Nay gentle, Romeo, we must have you dance.â⬠Mercutio is trying to cheer Romeo up to have fun and forget about Rosaline. Shakespeare uses the imperative ââ¬Å"mustâ⬠to suggest to the audience that there is control in the friendship as Mercutio wants Romeo back to himself because Mercutio thinks Romeo has lost his way and needs to be brought back to himself. The adjective ââ¬Å"gentleâ⬠is used by Shakespeare to convey how fond Mercutio is of Romeo, but is said by Mercutio through humour showing the audience how light-hearted and frivolous Mercutio is. The frivolous and light-heartedness is one-sided in the friendsip teeling the audience that Romeo and Mercutio isnââ¬â¢t the same. The adjective ââ¬Å"gentleâ⬠is also used to show the audience how fragile and easily hurt Romeo is which gives the audience an insight into Romeoââ¬â¢s character. Shakespeare then use the collective pronoun ââ¬Å"weâ⬠to show the audience that Mercutio sees Romeoââ¬â¢s problems as his own showing the audience how caring Mercutio is of Romeo. This makes the audience feel that there is support and care in their friendship. This alsomakes the audience feel sorry for Romeo being so focused on love because heââ¬â¢s heart always gets broken and Mercutioââ¬â¢s support and care may cheer up the audience up. Romeo and Mercutioââ¬â¢s friendship is presented by Shakespeare as a caring friendship. This is shown to the audience when Mercutio says,â⬠Prick love for pricking , And you beat love down.â⬠Mercutio is giving Romeo advice ,which is to fight back at love for giving him heartache ,which shows theà audience the care in their friendship and that Mercutio wants to see Romeo happy, again, showing the audience he cares. Shakespeare uses repetition of the word ââ¬Å"loveâ⬠to reinforce that Mercutioââ¬â¢s view of love is different to Romeoââ¬â¢s showing the differences in their friendship and that they arenââ¬â¢t the same as they have different personalities. Shakespeare uses the metaphor, ââ¬Å"Prick love for pricking, And you beat love down.â⬠This metaphor is used by Shakespeare to imply that, again, he is giving him advice to move on which shows even more care in their friendship. Shakespeare uses foreshadowing, which is that love is violent, to tell the audience that Romeo will get over his heartache as he moves on to love Juliet. The audience may feel that Mercutio genuinely cares for Romeo and wants him to be happy, even though they have different views on love, but they may feel itââ¬â¢s not the best friendship as Mercutio doesnââ¬â¢t offer Romeo the sensitivity he needs. Shakespeare presents Romeo and Mercutioââ¬â¢s friendship as caring in and witty and sarcastic way. This is shown to the audience by Shakespeare when Mercutio says,â⬠you are a lover borrow cupidââ¬â¢s wings and soar with them above common bound.â⬠Mercutio is trying to cheer Romeo up in a sarcastic way to try and make him laugh and show Mercutio wants him to enjoy himself, which shows the audience that he cares. Shakespeare uses the metaphor,â⬠borrow cupiââ¬â¢s wings and soar with them above common bound.â⬠The metaphor is advice to imply to the audience that Romeo is cupid in the situation as he falls in love easily and he needs to be free from love and fly away from it to be back to himself. The metaphor also is giving the audience an insight into his character, which is that he falls in love all the time telling us he is a romantic. Mercutio is being serious but trying to make it seem a joke to cheer Romeo up telling the audience that he does care for Romeo by being sarcastic in a funny and witty way, but meaning no harm. Romeo and Mercutioââ¬â¢s friendship is presented by Shakespeare as a loyal friendship. This is shown by Shakespear through the dialogue when Romeo says,â⬠and fire-eyed fury be my conduct now!â⬠This tells the audience that Romeo is loyal to Mercutio is loyal to Romeo. Shakespeare uses alliteration ââ¬Å"fire-eyed furyâ⬠which used to reinforce how frustrated Romeo is and ââ¬Å"fire-eyed furyâ⬠is used as a metaphor by Shakespeare to reinforce how angryà Romeo is. Puncuation is also used to show Romeoââ¬â¢s anger to the audience, ââ¬Å"!â⬠. The word ââ¬Å"conductâ⬠is used by Shakspeare to foreshadow the impact of Tybaltââ¬â¢s death, where Romeo killed Tybalt because Tybalt killed Mercutio when Mercutio was protecting Romeo, which shows the audience the loyality in Romeo and Mercutioââ¬â¢s friendship. This may make the audience feel that Shakespeare is foreshadowing that love wont be as easy and because Romeo is angry it may hint to the audience that it is something to do with his actions. Shakespeare presents Romeo and Benvolioââ¬â¢s friendship as a caring and reliable friendship. This is shown through the dialogue by Shakespeare when Benvolio says,â⬠Iââ¬â¢ll pay that doctrine or else die in debt.â⬠Benvolio is the more emotional friend who you would rely on as he cares for Romeoââ¬â¢s sensitive side and his emotions. The use of the verb ââ¬Å"dieâ⬠is used by Shakespeare to tell the audience how much Benvolio cares and would do anything for Romeo as he loves unconditionally, as they are cousins. Although Mercutio did die for Romeo which tells the audience he equally cares but has a different way of showing his care for Romeo. Hyberbole is used by Shakespeare to show the audience that Benvolio, again, really cares for Romeo and would do anything for him showing how reliable Benvolio is showing he is the more reliable friend than Mercutio. This might make the audience feel that both Benvolio and Mercutio care, but Benvolio has a better way of showing it as he offers Romeo more support. I think that both friendships are good friendships to have, nut Romeo and Benvolioââ¬â¢s friendship was best because he was a more emotional friend and he cared more for Romeoââ¬â¢s emotions. Benvolio also shows the audience that he cares a lot for Romeo in a better way than Mercutio does and is more reliable than Mercutio. I think the audience feels that Mercutio doesnââ¬â¢t take Romeoââ¬â¢s feelings seriously sometimes even though he cares a lot but isnââ¬â¢t a friend you would rely on. The audience think Romeo and Mercutioââ¬â¢s is better because Benvolio is too serious and isnââ¬â¢t as humorous as Mercutio, but Benvolio is really just being mature and is doing whatââ¬â¢s best for Romeo.

Barriers to Learning from Disaster
Barriers to Learning from Catastrophe The being of insurance policies is cited by some bookman as one of the barriers to larning from catastrophes ( Elliott, et al. , 2000 ) . There is a misconception among the members of the populace that one time you have taken an insurance policy, it will take attention of all your jeopardies. In most instances insurance will non cover hurricane harm, inundations among other jeopardies which are black. Persons and concern organisations have ever viewed readiness cost as expensive and besides excessively complicated ( Elliott et al. , 2000 ) . The perceptual experience that catastrophes happen everyplace and that they can non be avoided is another barrier to larning from their happening. This perceptual experience and attitude is unsafe, but it can be overcome through hazard readiness and analysis. Most people have close entree to adequate supplies of nutrient and H2O, this is unsafe because these people are ever comfy and takes small or no precautional steps to forestall a catastrophe from reoccurring ( Elliott et al. , 2000 ) . The construct of personal duty poses another barrier. Peoples are brought up believing that they can ever turn to name aid lopes such as 911 in instance of an exigency. Some state of affairss may happen forestalling the forces in charge of exigency from making in clip. As a consequence, many people fail to larn how to last on their ain without the aid of other individuals ( Lawson, 2013 ) . The inclination of switching incrimination for an inauspicious happening provides another barrier. If an organisation is entirely responsible for a catastrophe due to miss of readiness, it should research the causes and non faulting other persons. If the incrimination is projected elsewhere, such organisations fail to larn from the occurrence of the catastrophe. Where there is a deficiency of trust in an organisation, the informational flow, indispensable for organisational acquisition and crisis direction can be distorted. In the absence of trust, full revelation will besides non be available therefore suppressing honestness. For case, the inclination to fault a pilot in instance of an accident masks all factors that contributed to the accident which might hold been an of import lesson to such a pilot ( Lawson, 2013 ) . When we experience a catastrophe, we tend to research our failures to forestall and expect inauspicious events, likely that have long periods of incubation. In most instances, the premises made and the nucleus beliefs normally have an influence on the usage or development of precautional steps. If we base our precautional steps on false premises, our control systems and all defence mechanisms in topographic point will be a failure, which may non attest itself unless triggered to expose them. These defences make it hard for a state or an single to cover with events when they really occur, given that catastrophe is normally unexpected and pressing. Sometimes fortunes taking to a catastrophe in an organisation can be alone and the available eventuality programs may non hold incorporated schemes on how to cover with them. Poor readyings or programs based false premises can take to projecting incriminations and denial. Until the ruinous event has occurred, so the state can non go on to de ny the chance of the event happening. The denial procedure will suppress our ability to larn after the event ( Boulter et al. , 2013. ) . When a catastrophe occurs, it creates a circumstance which lies outside the usual direction pattern and more frequently it will transcend the authoritiess or managersââ¬â¢ experience and accomplishments. Crisis is a period of uncertainnesss and many activities, and hence there is small clip for larning and contemplation. Governments and directions will seek to hold legitimacy from their citizens and the stakeholders as they deal with the eventââ¬â¢s wake. They will most evidently project incrimination to person or elsewhere. This will do the acquisition after the crisis much more hard. Therefore, larning will seldom follow catastrophe. Failure to larn a lesson from the happening of an inauspicious event will present a menace for return of similar events in the hereafter and the authorities or directions will reiterate errors that they had made earlier. It is hence of import for the authoritiess and organisations to non merely learn from their errors but besides from the errors made by other organisations or states ( Katrina, 2008 ) . Effective communicating is highly of import during a catastrophe. Feedback will assist forestall the incident from developing into a ruinous event. This can merely happen if organisations can hold both negative and positive feedbacks. Effective thought is paramount in these state of affairss as it will take to the development of new positions and new significance to catastrophe. In most instances, organisations experience individual looped feedback and therefore individual looped larning. There is a demand for cultural readjustment which must non be an on and off occasions, but should be evaluated on a regular basis both in footings of aims and purposes ( Elliott et al. , 2000 ) . Time can besides impede effectual acquisition from a catastrophe. No paperss may hold been maintained, memories will melt with clip, participants will decease and the juncture becomes blurred as clip base on ballss. It is much more hard to larn from past catastrophes because of the modern engineerings which have taken case in point. Operators of modern equipment may non understand what the engineering can make for them ; therefore supplying fewer chances for acquisition. Our civilization will besides impact the ability to larn from past happenings. The records of a catastrophe will ever be tainted by the civilization of the people bring forthing the record. This makes those reading past events to believe that it would merely go on in that specific background ( Moresco and Peek, 2013 ) . Distance is besides a hinderance to be learned from catastrophes. Hazard directors will ever inquire how an event that took topographic point 1000s of stat mis off and likely in another continent, will supply an penetration. When hazard directors impose their ain civilizations on others, the distant events appear unsuitable uneven, or unimportant. Differences in clime, architecture and geographics will impact the procedure of larning from catastrophes. The jurisprudence will germinate with clip and within a given civilization. When people, look behind at what happened at the clip when there was no jurisprudence, or, under different jurisprudence, they may neglect to understand what lessons are applicable in the present life ( Bonner, 2000 ) . Poverty and deficiency of instruction ; people with small or no instruction be given to be nescient about issues that do non hold immediate reverberations. They tend to take small or no precautional steps to assist forestall a catastrophe from reoccurring.Mentions Bonner, A. , 2000.Interrupting Barriers to Learn From Past Catastrophes.1st erectile dysfunction.
